“Learning the Quran and contemplating it has transformed my life and gave it a new meaning,” Obaidullah Abubakr Ango told IQNA in an interview on the sidelines of the contest.

He said he considered it a blessing from God to learn and memorize the Holy Book.

He urged anyone who is looking for a way to change his life for the better to refer to this divine book.

Obaidullah stressed the need for inclusion of the Quran’s ethical and moral teachings in the education system, adding that a generation raised with Quranic values can pave the way for a real transformation in the Islamic Ummah.

Asked about Quranic activities in Niger, he said there is a good reception among people in different age groups for the Quranic courses offered at the country’s Quran memorization centers.

He said some of these centers use new methods for teaching the Quran while some others use traditional methods.

Obaidullah noted that he started learning the Quran by heart at an early age with the help of his father.

After memorizing the entire Quran, he continued learning Tajweed and recitation rules until the age of 15 and currently teaches the Quran in his country.

He noted that Quran teaching in Niger is largely influenced by the neighboring country Nigeria.

He has so far taken part in four international Quran competitions, in Tanzania, Kenya, Senegal and Egypt, and finished first in the one in Tanzania.
